I got a bell for my saddle a while back just because I like the noise. Since then, I’ve been informed that bikers also have a tradition of putting a “gremlin bell” on their motorcycles; the sound is meant to keep away bad spirits that would cause accidents or mechanical problems. So maybe a horse bell would keep away those bad spirits that cause spooking or lameness? Worth a try!
